Massive Goodwill Haul

Sometimes, I tell ya, you hit our local Goodwill at just the right moment.

Hanna Andersson coat, size 130 (Henry now, Eli next winter), $4.99. Mini Boden jeans, size 9/10 (Henry next fall, probably), $1.99.

A bunch of size 80 (Zuzu soon) Hanna Andersson stuff: blue fleece jacket with farm scene ($1.99), tan cords ($1.99), pink and floral shirt and capri set ($2.99), floral pjs ($2.99). Also purple rollneck size 2T L.L. Bean butterfly sweater ($1.99) and these adorable pink and red leather mary janes with this kind of sporty rubber outsole, size 22, some random brand I’ve never heard of (B Shoes?) ($2.99) (I may be overdescribing the shoes but that is because I want them in my size).

Not pictured: blue fleece North Face pullover in a-little-too-big-for-Henry size ($1.99), cute floral cardigan for me that looks like it’s from Boden (but is actually Cherokee, and I had to put aside all of my 1988 bad Cherokee-brand leather-fringe-type associations, but the sweater is great, really), and a good big antique Bell jar that will be good for bulk almonds and things.

I’m still kind of high from the time I got that Anthropologie dress, and now this!

Wow! We had a similar Hanna Andersson jacket for Sam and it’s just awesome. I also love the rollneck sweater. What a score!

Great finds! Your Goodwill is SO much cheaper than ours here- ours has set prices for everything, so all kids’ pants are $3.99, all kids shoes $4.99, etc, which I find excessive. I found a cute pair of boots for Nora the other day but then was told because they were boots-they were $9.99 rather than $4.99. I did not buy them.
I thought those jeans were for you- they look super long in the photo!

Whats going on in Portland? I can’t even get clothes that good at our Childrens Orchard or Kid-to-Kid (except for the fabulous Tea cardigan)
    Happy Birthday!

Christina, I guess it makes sense that California would be more expensive than Maine, but I sort of thought that Goodwill would be standardized or something. All the kids clothes are mostly $1.99, though they price some things higher if they’re fancier. I think most of the kid shoes are $2.99. Adult clothes are $4.99.

The jeans are pretty long, but that will work well for Henry.

Sarah, the Goodwill here is ridiculously good. I’m not sure why. But I’ve gotten some really amazing things.

I would have thought that Goodwill would be standardized too. They seem to have recently raised their prices here- maybe they feel that the thrifting newbies will be willing to pay higher prices. The stores here are definitely more crowded and picked over lately. Some of the prices on items here are just crazy- the other day i saw a pack of cards that said “Christmas 2008″ on them and they were asking $5.99 for them?!?

Our Goodwill does sometimes price things randomly. In the dishes, some plates are 99 cents, and some are as much as $4. And yesterday there was a miniature copy of “Horton Hears a Who” that I looked at (I think tiny books are so cute) but then I realized it was just a shrunken down copy — it was about the size of a Nutshell Library book, but the text was so small it was practically illegible. Anyway, that was inexplicably $4.99.

I love a good thrift-score! What’s with the sizes though. Is that how they size things for kids? I don’t have kids so I wouldn’t know, but, size 80?

It’s the fancypants European method of sizing. I have no idea what the numbers refer to. Centimeters?
