At our house we’re very dad-oriented if you consider Tim, Iris, Miranda, Susannah. Sometimes I sign our notes TIMS. Better than SMIT (or smut).
oh no, Emily, you got me started on a new brainstorm: include everyone’s name, with an A baby, and Julie’s family could be JAH ZED or some such rastafari-ish thing. Too much fun. More fun than work. When will they fire me??

How do you pronounce Apinine? No, never mind, it looks to much like an element. Sutswana and I were just last week discussing the merits of Agatha/Aggie though. I’m also laughing about Alouette. “Oh, here, baby, let me sing you a song about you. It’s about plucking all your feathers. Here, I’ll also put another dollar in your therapy jar while I’m at it.”

i’m pretty sure Apinine is a Way, like a route through, er, alps or something. I just like the word. ay-pen-ayn, not ay-pen-ay-nee. i think. then again I still read Pen-eh-lope, not pen-eh-lo-pee, so ….

A is a very good initial.
A names I like, besides my own: Adele; Adelaide; Andrea (which goes very smartly with your last name!); Audra; Audrey; Alice. I think all of those were on my ever-changing girls’ names list at one point or another.

I have always LOVED the name Astrid, and Agatha is pretty awesome too. OR use Oleanna and you have HOZE (and even better HOZED with Dave in there)

Aura, Alivia, Aloe, (HAH), Alexandra (Lexie Falatko!),Ana,
Adorable, Antagonist (the youngest),now I am on google, Abbey, Akako (really – it’s Japanese) – okay, I will stop – been a LONG day – your posts are refreshing except when You have to do work. The gray pallor returned to our house
recently and SURPRISINGLY, I called our friend/cleaning person
and she had a free block. Safe to say all the cleaning knocked the socks out of me and all is too funny, too fast.

I actually like Clementine too. Astrid would be great, but after watching The Office where Steve Carell thinks the baby is named Assturd I couldn’t do it. Henry made up a list that includes Adele and Daisy (and Carrie, Laura, Mary, and Grace…guess what we’ve been reading?).

I looked up Clementine in the baby name book to see if there were any nickname possibilities (neither Dave nor I are hot on Clem, which seems mannish), and the most hilarious variation I saw was “Clementia.” Seriously.

ALSO, many girls have committed to 3 + syllable names…Victoria, Jennifer, Samantha, Catherine. You can just go with Clementine.

Yeah, I have to agree that we could just call her Clementine. It’s actually become a pet peeve of mine when I mention a name and someone says, “But what will you CALL her?” Um, yeah, I’ll call her that name I just told you about six seconds ago.

I still like Zosia (polish for Sophia) but I know, too many z’s. My Czech great grandmother was Amelia (bedelia?) and I had a great aunt named Anastasia. I also like Charlotte, Harriet, Frances and Ramona–all the cool girls in literature. (If Ramona, then you have both Ramona the Pest and Henry Huggins references in your household…all you’d need after that is Beezus and Ribsy. Wait–Beezus was Beatrice, right? Also cute. I like Eleanor and Elsa, too. But then you’ve got the double E problem…hmmm.)

As you know, Ramona is my fave. I thought about the Henry/Ramona thing, but I don’t think it will be too obvious since the others aren’t named Scooter and Ellen Tebbitts. I like Harriet too, but it might be too close to “Henry”? I do like Beatrice, but even more I like Beatrix.

I’m never sure if Beatrix is supposed to be pronounced Beatrice or Bea-tricks.

I always pronounced Beatrix as Bea-tricks. Because then you have the option of Trixie as a nickname.
As much as I love the old-lady names, I’m kind of ruling them out this time (well, except for Beatrix) because they are sounding like Zuzanna’s dowdy sister to me.
