March 7, 2005. Oh my goodness, it's been a while, hasn't it? Well, I did actually knit something recently.

January 14, 2003. The other thing I wanted to say is that I got the latest issue of Knit It! and I have to say that I'm completely underwhelmed. I thought the past issues were terrific, but this one has nothing I'd even consider making. I think if I'd never made socks I would find the sock article instructive. But I have made socks. The kids' sweaters were cute, but I have quite a backlog of kids' sweaters I want to make, so they'd have to be really fabulous to jump to the top of the list. I'm hoping this issue is an anomaly and that the next one will be good again(whenever that is -- since they come out, what? yearly?). Added later in the day: I finished the new hat for Henry.

January 13, 2003. Yes, yes, I know. It's been a ridiculous time since I last updated. We're in the process of renovating and moving, and life is a bit out of control. I have barely been knitting at all. I did (sort of) finish the KP&S neck-down pullover, but I think I made it too short, so I need to try it on and see how much longer I need to make it. At any rate, I think I bound off the bottom too tightly. So I will either be ripping back to above the ribbing and making the body longer, or unpicking the bound off edge and re-binding-off with a larger needle. I do have a new picture of Henry wearing his red sweater. I am also going to try to make Henry a hat over the next day or two. All of his hats seem to be falling over his eyes, and he had a good one with earflaps that he just outgrew. Stay tuned (the way I've been going, I'll finish the hat tomorrow, and tell you about it in March).

November 22, 2003. I've added a new picture of Henry to the baby layette page. It's a much cuter picture; plus, he's wearing the high-top booties.

November 18, 2003. I've added a picture of Henry wearing the sweater from the baby layette. It's still pretty big on him. I don't know what I was thinking when I thought he was going to be able to wear it home from the hospital. I don't think I had any idea what size babies actually are.

November 12, 2003. Today Henry is wearing handknit pants, though they're hand-me-downs, so I don't know who knit them. I can tell they're handknit from the seams, though. Aren't they excellent?
Just ignore that giant puddle of drool on Henry's shirt, ok?

November 3, 2003. I finished the body of the KP&S neck-down pullover. I really should make a point to note the size I'm making (of whatever I'm knitting) on this website somewhere. Because I sure didn't remember what size I was making of this sweater, and I did figure it out, but it took some math. I also have a photo for you of Henry's feet wearing some of the booties I made him. They lasted about four seconds before rocketing off to the floor, but they looked cute.

October 29, 2003. Finally, I can give you a picture of Henry in the sweater that Melissa made him. It's still a bit big, so I think it will last us very well through the winter. You can't really tell, but there's an adorable moon-and-stars silver button at the neckline. Thanks, Melissa!

October 6, 2003. Ooof, knitting has not been happening these days. I have actually started knitting again, but it's hard to find the time. I practically ache for it, though. It looks at me so sadly from my Knitter's Review tote bag. I've mostly just been knitting more on the Knitting Pure & Simple neck-down pullover, since that's mindless and easy to pick up and put down. Poor, poor, neglected Rowan Jack. Will it ever get done? And I'm dying to make a baby hooded cardigan for Henry, but I'm not starting it until I finish something else. Or at least get closer to finishing (otherwise he might be 4 by the time I get to it).

September 9, 2003. I'm assuming anyone who reads this page has also looked at my main page and seen that Henry was born three weeks ago, and that's why I haven't updated much. For those who are curious, I did knit a bit while in labor, but not much. This wasn't because I didn't want to knit, but because Henry's head was so far down that I couldn't sit at all, because I was literally sitting on his head. I haven't knit a stitch since he was born though. I got the best package from Melissa last week! Picture to come soon, as soon as I can find the time to manage it. She sent us the cutest hand-knit sweater for Henry, complete with an adorable silvery moon button. She also sent a book called "Baby Faces" that Henry absolutely adores. He is completely enthralled by it. Thanks, Melissa!

August 10, 2003. Not much going on here. I'm back to working on the sleeves for Rowan Jack, though it's very slow-going. I got the new Rowan magazine in the mail on Thursday, and, typically, I'm in love with all the patterns that are 5.5-7 stitches per inch. Ah, well. There are some Cork and Polar things that look nice too, though. I also picked up a copy of Vogue Knitting, and I'm surprised how many patterns in there I want to make. This is a good issue, I think. Though I can't really understand why they have Daryl Hannah on the cover as some star knitter, when she admits she can't purl. I mean, ok, I guess if you can get Daryl Hannah to be on the cover of your magazine, that's great, but aren't there other fancy celebrities who can at least purl? I don't know, maybe I'm just being grumpy. Good for Daryl Hannah if she's happy just doing garter stitch scarves (don't read that sarcastically, I mean it). It just didn't seem like she warranted a whole article, somehow.

| August 4, 2003. I finished the top part of my labor sweater, so it's all set, for whenever I go into labor. I really like the Lamb's Pride Bulky yarn, though the mohair in it does leave little fuzzies all over everything. | |
