Knitting Page Archives: March 2003

March 31, 2003. Minnie is done! And I've already started the next project. I can tell already that the adult things are going to get shoved to the back of the closet, since it's so much more satisfying to finish these quick little baby things. I'm doing the layette cardigan and hat from Quick Baby Knits by Debbie Bliss. I haven't started a page for it yet (since I'm still in the middle of the back, so it's not too exciting yet). I'm doing it in Sirdar Rio, which is a velvety-soft cotton/acrylic yarn.

My favorite part about this pattern is that it has pockets. I'm planning this as the outfit my kid wears home from the hospital -- what's he going to need in his pockets? All the phone numbers of the other babies he's chatted up? (Oh, and yes, we did find out that our baby is a boy, so that is of course affecting all of my yarn and pattern decisions.)

March 25, 2003. I finished Minnie's second sleeve, so the sleeves are blocking while I knit up the button bands and collar. I'm hoping to have this done today!

I neglected to mention what an excellent week last week was for Stuff. Besides the new weaving yarn I got at Halcyon Yarn, I also got two excellent books as a giftie from Clara (a thank you for helping her at her booth at the Spa Knit and Spin last month): 50 Baby Bootees to Knit and Knitting for Baby. I've already picked out about a million projects from each book that I want to try. I especially like that I can use up otherwise useless yarn bits to make the baby booties.

And then, on Thursday, I had coffee with Melissa, and she lent me a huge bag of maternity clothes. Thanks, Melissa! So many maternity clothes are bizarre and/or hideous, so it was nice to get a big bag of normal, decent Melissa clothes to wear.

March 20, 2003. I'm on the second sleeve of Minnie, but haven't updated the photos at all yet. It's going pretty quickly, though I've gotten sidetracked with new yarn purchases for weaving, which I talk about on my main page.

March 8, 2003. And now, the right front of Minnie is done.

March 7, 2003. The left front of Minnie is done.

March 5, 2003. I started a page for Minnie, and also revamped my list on the left there. Rather than listing all my Finished Objects in the sidebar, I have now moved them all to their own page. I think this will be easier in the long run, and I feel better having the items categorized (I always like it when people have their list of finished knitting categorized: sweaters, dishcloths, that sort of thing).

March 4, 2003. I'm still working on the back of the Mini Minnie, so no picture yet. I'm almost done with the back, and will take a photo then. (I just figure it will look more interesting-looking when one piece is done. Right now it's just a bunch of polka dots.)

I got a nice email from reader Kim, who said she already made one of the Feline Dim Sum! She made the wonton. I'm so excited! I really had no idea whether anyone would make them or not. She said her cat loves it, so there's an endorsement from a cat other than my fatcats.

March 3, 2003. Hey, new Knitty! And this time, I've actually got a pattern in there. Fun!

In other (big) news, I'm pregnant. Hurrah! Surprise! Due in August. I've been trying to decide what to knit for a new baby, and finally decided to start with Rowan Minnie (the pattern also comes in baby sizes) from the Spring/Summer 2003 Rowan (I'm managing to knit something from this magazine despite the skeevies I get every time I look at the cover model's alarming clavicle). I had some yarn in my stash that works perfectly. I was going to wait until I finished my current WIPs, but then decided that that could take me well past August, and maybe an instant-gratification baby sweater would be a good idea anyway. So I started yesterday, and am 2/3 of the way done with the back. Pictures tomorrow, probably.
