November 22, 2003. Here's Henry in the sweater and high-top booties, and looking much happier about the whole situation.

November 18, 2003. Here's Henry in the layette sweater. You can see it's still a bit big on him. I have to admit he doesn't look that happy about the sweater in this picture.

November 3, 2003. Here's Henry wearing the low-top booties from the layette:

They look like such funny little casual clogs on him.

May 22, 2003. I finally picked buttons, so now the entire layette is complete.

the finished layette

The buttons have Peter Rabbit on them. Here's a (somewhat blurry) close-up:

May 8, 2003. There are now two pairs of booties to complete this whole ensemble:

booties

Both of these are from 50 Baby Bootees to Knit. The ones on the left are the Textured Cuff Bootees, and they're size 3-6 months. The ones on the right are the Slip-on Shoes, and they're size 0-3 months. Though, in actuality, they look like they're about the same size to me. Whatever. Now at least our kid has low-tops and high-tops.

May 2, 2003. Here's the little hat to go with the cardigan:

I'm glad I decided to do it in the round, in stockinette. I do think it goes with the sweater better, and it's so gratifying to finish a hat, and not having any seaming to do. Now, on to the booties! I haven't decided which pattern to use for these yet. I think I will just pick one that fits the gauge out of 50 Baby Bootees to Knit.

May 1, 2003. I finished the cardigan:

cardigan, without buttons

Sorry that I didn't bother to straighten the collar before I took this picture. I've started on the hat. The pattern has you do the hat flat, and entirely in garter stitch. I decided I'd rather do the hat in the round, but that there was no way I was going to do all garter stitch in the round, so I just did a garter stitch border, and the rest of the hat will be stockinette. I think that matches the sweater better anyway.

April 14, 2003. I finished the left front of the baby cardigan. (I actually finished it over a week ago; I'm not sure why I didn't update until now.) You can see where the pocket is going to go.

April 3, 2003. I've started knitting the baby layette (well, just the cardigan and hat, not the blanket) from Quick Baby Knits by Debbie Bliss. I'm doing it in Sirdar Rio, in color 55 (Sky).

So far I've got the cardigan back finished, and the two pocket linings (you need to do the pocket linings before you do the cardigan fronts, because you knit them in as you go). The large shadowy backside of Theo is not included in the pattern; that's a bonus.

I like patterns that have you put everything on holders, rather than bind everything off and pick up stitches later.
