February 6, 2003. Second Porthole sock complete!

I took this picture at night, because I wanted to get it in the mail to send to my mom. But you can pretty much tell what it looks like by looking at the first sock. I would definitely make this pattern again, after giving myself a break from it for a while maybe.

January 14, 2002. I finished one of these socks and gave it to my mom for Christmas. The lone sock is pictured below.

I used this Porthole Sock pattern, and am knitting the socks in Accessories Unlimited Yarn for Sox in "Blue Jean." It's a nice thick worsted sock yarn, that has little flecks of different colors in it. These are going to be very warm socks.

The pattern was more complex than anything I've really done so far, with a lot of twisted stitches to make the cables, but it was fun to do and watch the cables (or, well, I guess they're "portholes") grow. The pattern calls for continuing the porthole design on the top of the foot, but I decided that enough was enough, and I'd just knit the foot in stockinette . Plus I figured that, since this yarn is so thick, it will fit into shoes better if there's not a bulky pattern on the top of your foot.
