April 3, 2002. I started knitting in the summer of 2001. I'm not sure what made me want to knit, but it was definitely an all-of-a-sudden thing. One day, I wasn't really thinking about knitting at all, and the next day I was at the craft store buying a book called "First Steps in Knitting." I really, really like it. It's maybe the first thing I've ever done that actually takes a long time to do, and where the progress is fairly slow (for me at least), in order to get to your finished thing at the end. This is especially good for a sometimes-flaky, jump-from-thing-to-thing, Myers-Briggs ENFP like myself. I've only completed two things so far, a knitted dishcloth for my mother-in-law, and this circular-knit roll-brim hat for my mom:

Knit in Lion's Brand Wool-Ease Sportweight Blue Mist.

Another view, as modeled by Mom's dog Otis.
